About the Course:
According to the author, many authors have focused on the integration of various theories of practice and/or eclecticism in practice, but have not explored the framework for integration as it relates to social work practice. This manuscript provides a brief history of theoretical integration and then describes a multi-systemic, multi-theoretical integrative model (IM). It uses as grounding for the model the concepts of (a) the therapeutic relationship or holding environment, (b) client self-determination, (c) bio-psycho-social perspective, and (d) person-in-situation. It includes examples of the application of the model, as well as the advantages and limitations for social work practice. COURSE SYLLABUS I Literature Review II History of Psychotherapy Practice Integration III Current Use of an Integrative Model for Trauma and Abuse IV The Integrative Perspective: A Multi-Systemic, Multi-Theoretical Approach V Advantages and Limitations of Using an Integrative Theoretical Approach VI Discussion VII Conclusions/Implications for Clinical Social Work Practice
